J. Cole Is This Generation's Most Consistent Artist

J. Cole Is This Generation's Most Consistent Artist YESSY URBINA | AUGUST 8, 2018 | 9:02AMJermaine Cole’s latest project, KOD, channels pure artistry. It's inspired by an artist who doesn’t stray from lyrical consistency, Kendrick Lamar. Cole witnessed Lamar's work onstage in Detroit during the Damn Tour, which left both fans and Cole himself coveting the encore. These artists, who lead the hip-hop generation, have two things in common: a desire to keep hip-hop alive by providing a…See More

Despite heavy pressure from the NMPA and songwriters, SESAC and its owner, Blackstone Group, and doubling down on their MMA protest. Last week, SESAC and its parent company, Blackstone Group, issued a sharp counter-proposal to the Music Modernization Act, a challenge that could threaten the bill’s passage. The protest revolves around the MMA’s creation of a government-sanctioned entity known as the Mechanical Licensing Collective, or MLC, which Blackstone feels is extremely unfair to competing…See More

The 'Free' Debate

April 06, 2009 - Digital and Mobile

By Glenn Peoples, Nashville

Ad-supported music sites, file-sharing services and a wealth of music posted online are adding to the topic of "free" become a more common talking point. As companies search for new ways to monetize recorded music, expect free music to be a common theme.

Posted on April 2, 2009 at 7:58am 0 Comments

Startling stats continue to roll in on the quickly-declining CD. The latest, unearthed by Hits Magazine, is that the first quarter was completely devoid of a platinum release. That is, no album specifically released during the first quarter has scored sales of one million, specifically in the United States. Additionally, only 39 releases scored first week sales north of 25,000.

On a broader level, year-over-year album sales are sharply down again, in the mid-teens percentages. Of… Continue

Hey Jonathan, thank you for this site.  It's a wonderful avenue for those in the Music Industry.  I recently heard from Suze Orman (financial analyst and the Suze Orman Show).  She said that she thought my Oprah song was great and she posted it on her twitter page.  I also heard from Muhammad Ali, Jr.  He loved my "The Time Is Now" video which has his dad in it.  Internet and the Social Networks are a great way to spread the love of music and entertainment.  Thank you for all that you do.  Blessings.  Midge
